TV characters may not be real people, but they can be just as influential as real Hollywood stars, royalties, athletes, and celebrities. Just think of Carrie Bradshaw and the rest of her girlfriends. We all wanted to copy their style, and we desired to dress like them. On the other end of the spectrum are TV characters that have set such a bad example that they exude precisely what we don’t want to look like. We have compiled a comprehensive list of TV characters which you certainly don’t want to look like. The next time you pull clothes out of your closet and dream about wearing them, we want you to think of these TV characters. If the clothes will make you look like them, we want you to ditch them or tuck them deep inside of your closet.

Desperate Housewives’ Edie Britt

Desperate Housewives was one of the most successful TV shows ever. Cherry Productions and ABC Studios produced the American comedy-drama. However, the show was canceled during Season 8 because the creators didn’t want it to overstay its welcome.

Edie, portrayed by Nicolette Sheridan, was one of the show’s most memorable characters because of Sheridan’s acting and her inappropriate clothes. She often wore loud patterns and sexy cuts that made her unmemorable for the wrong reasons.

Hannah Montana’s Hannah Montana

Who could forget the adorable Miley Cyrus when she portrayed Miley, and her alter ego, Hannah Montana? Little children adored that show, and it had a massive following on the Disney Channel. But we have to admit; the 2000s were not a high point in fashion.

Many trends were questionable, and even Hannah Montana herself couldn’t keep herself away from terrible fashion choices. One of the many things that she didn’t seem to run out of were sparkles. She would blind you from a mile away, to say the least.

Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon Cooper has to be in here

There may be other characters on the Big Bang Theory that may be worse than him when it comes to fashion, but we felt the need to include Sheldon on this list. Don’t get us wrong. He has a few shirts that we’d like to get our hands on.

However, somebody should have told him that it’s ok to wear long sleeve shirts without the need for adding another short sleeve shirt on top. Seriously, he must have so much laundry detergent at home, or he must love washing clothes.

How I Met Your Mother’s Lily Aldrin

If we know a person who’s a shopaholic, we’d imagine them to have an enviable closet full of the nicest brand-name clothes. However, that’s not always the case. Being a shopaholic does not guarantee impeccable fashion sense.

A case in point is Lily Aldrin from How I Met Your Mother. She spends so much money shopping yet still manages to look like a fashion victim. Where did all her money go, and most importantly, what’s the use of all that shopping?

Saved by the Bell’s Screech

If you’re not convinced that the 90s involved some questionable fashion, we have one thing to say to you. Just look at Screech from Saved by the Bell, and he will eliminate all your doubts. Patterns make you look attractive at times.

However, you have to remember not to overdo it because it will just drive people insane looking at you. We can’t talk about his suspenders, too, because he seldom goes anywhere without them. Screech to suspenders, “You complete me!”

The Suite Life of Zack and Cody’s Maddie Fitzpatrick

Some people hated Maddie, while others loved her and her unique sense of style. One thing is for sure, though; she wore outfits that we can still remember until now, and we’re not talking about please memories. We wouldn’t be caught dead wearing some of the things she wore.

In her heart of hearts, she only wanted one thing, and that was to become a fashion icon. However, she ended up becoming a disaster with her over-the-top choices. She had courage, though, and she wasn’t afraid to show everyone her one-of-a-kind style.

The Nanny’s Fran Fine

We are not going to deny it, The Nanny was one of our guilty pleasures during the 90s. Fran Drescher’s distinct voice and comedic styles were such a treat, and we’re lucky to have grown up with her. We miss those days.

However, her clothing choices left a lot to be discussed. She liked to sport neon-colored clothes that looked like giant billboards, and she also couldn’t stop wearing those unattractive blazers. She can’t be a model, and she can’t dress normally, either.

Hannah Montana’s Lily

Hannah Montana seems to be a goldmine of fashionably challenged people because we have another character from that TV show to add to this list, and that is Lily, Hannah’s best friend. Perhaps she got the fashion curse from her.

Sometimes, we want to dress differently to look cool, and that’s fine if it’s once in a while. However, if you do that every single day of your life, it’s another story. She looks like she’s trying to get through airport security without spending so much on baggage fees.

Gossip Girl’s Vanessa Abrams

Gossip Girl is a show that showcases people on different ends of the fashion spectrum. There’s Serena van der Woodsen who’s always so impeccably dressed. Then there’s Vanessa Abrams, who looks like she needs a lot of help with her choices.

She is beautiful. However, her beauty can’t save her from her terrible fashion choices. She likes to be unique by mixing high-end style with bohemian looks, but she can’t pull it off. Her choices just make her look sorry.

That’s So Raven’s Raven Baxter

Another TV character with more than her fair share of cringeworthy fashion moments was Raven Baxter, the star of That’s So Raven. She has this love for furry clothes and suits that never made it to the runway but stayed in our memory of what not to do.

Add to that the mix of awkward tops, and you have yourself a fashion disaster. She is remembered in all the wrong and unpleasant ways. Why did the wardrobe department allow her to wear such clothes? Was it a conscious decision?

We just hate how television has portrayed nerds over the years. You see one, and you have seen them all. They’re almost always with the giant glasses for that geeky look. Not all intelligent people wear glasses. Others have excellent eyesight.

Paul not only had to wear those thick glasses that say ‘I’m a nerd’ in capital letters, but he also had to wear those tucked-in polos with the weirdest patterns and designs. They really ought to stop doing this.

The Vampire Slayer’s Xander Harris

The truth is, no matter how good-looking an actor is, if you give them bad clothes to wear, they will look less attractive. It comes down to a science. This has been proven so many times, and it can’t be refuted. Just look at Xander Harris.

Nicholas Brendon portrayed the character as a fine-looking gentleman, but they gave him silk shirts with weird patterns to wear on television, which didn’t help increase his charm. They made him look like your average guy that doesn’t catch the ladies’ eyes.

Full House’s Kimmy Gibbler

Since we have discussed nerds, it’s time to take a look at dorks. Both are in the same category of intelligent people who don’t dress right and people who seldom catch the eyes of the most popular people in school.

Kimmy was an awkward dork whose clothing choices did little to help her image. She had a quirky fashion sense that saw her mixing clothing pieces that just didn’t make any sense at all. Too bad because she could have been a pretty girl.

The Office’s Meredith Palmer

Compared to Sex and the City, The Office looked like the Salvation Army when it came to fashion choices. It was never meant to influence how people dressed and strutted down the street, but they didn’t have to make it seem so sorry.

One character that stands out when it comes to how disastrous their wardrobe choices were is Meredith Palmer. She liked to wear ill-fitting dresses and long sleeves under her dresses. We just don’t have any idea why, but that seems to be the common theme here.

Bewitched’s Endora

If witches had power and they could conjure things from pretty much anything, they should be able to make themselves look excellent, right? They should have the ability to make themselves look fashion-forward and relevant if you want our opinion.

But that doesn’t seem to be the case, especially with Endora. She preferred clothes with loud colors and outfits that screamed, ‘Look at me! I’m here!’ And, to top it all off, her hair is bright red, and she wears a lot of accessories, too.

Atypical’s Paige Hardaway

They say that it’s better to be overdressed than to be underdressed, but we beg to differ, especially now that we have seen Paige Hardaway. Her choices when it comes to clothes are disappointing and genuinely make no sense.

Toning down her pattern choices could make a world of difference.  It would make her more relatable where fashion is concerned. She is a beautiful woman who can quickly get any man she wants if she’d only change her entire wardrobe.

The Office’s Phyllis Vance

Just because you’re old doesn’t mean you have to dress like it and wear nothing but ill-fitting clothes with old patterns and designs. Just like what they say, you are only as old as you think, or in this case, as you dress.

Phyllis should overhaul her entire wardrobe and ditch the mono-colored outfits, as well as huge glasses. She needs to switch to contact lenses or more trendy glasses and get rid of the baggy clothes and long skirts. She could look completely different.

Ugly Betty’s Betty Suarez

Yes, everyone is aware that Betty is not supposed to stand out. She is supposed to be the girl that everyone ignores and only notices when they have errands for her to run and things for her to do. They made the same point with her clothes.

She has braces on her mouth, she wears big glasses, and she has the most atrocious clothes. Yes, she works for a fashion magazine, and the last thing that she could have done was upgrade herself, but if she did that early on, there would be no show for us to watch.

Girls’ Hannah Horvath

She may have been one of the most relatable female characters on TV, but that doesn’t mean that she can pretty much wear anything she wants, even clothes that make her look like she is not in the right decade.

You can be relatable and fashionable at the same time. Wouldn’t you want that? She looks like she threw on the first clothing item she could lay her hands on in the morning without any consideration of how she would look.

Sex Education’s Lily Iglehart

Sex Education is a show that has got people talking, but some people are not talking about the show’s premise. Instead, they are talking about Lily Iglehart’s fashion sense or lack thereof. She has a great personality, but we can’t say the same thing about her clothes.

She seems like the girl who just picks random things from her closet and wears them. We get it. Producers like characters that people won’t forget, but can they make the characters unforgettable not because of their weird clothing choices?

Lizzie McGuire’s Miranda Sanchez

Miranda Sanchez was Lizzie McGuire’s best friend throughout the whole show, and where you find one of them, you can be sure the other is also there. Miranda was a great friend; however, we can’t say the same about her choice of fashion.

High school wasn’t our best years. Just ask anyone out there. But that’s not an excuse not to try to look good. She had a knack for coloring her hair the most outrageous colors and put it up in various hairstyles, too.

Wizards of Waverly Place’s Harper Finkle

One beloved character from the Wizards of Waverly Place was Harper Finkle. An honorary Russo family member, she had the privilege of knowing all their secrets, but they neglected to extend her the help she needed in the wardrobe department.

She had flair, spunk, and personality, but when combined, they became too much for her fashion style. She had an atrocious fashion sense, and that is evident in the rubber ducks she decided to put on her clothes.

Family Matters’ Steve Urkel

This one is no surprise. People would be more disappointed if Steve Urkel were missing on this list. His suspenders alone are enough to land him a spot on the Hall of Infamy for Fashion. He wasn’t that old to start wearing suspenders.

The fact that he chose to even if it wasn’t necessary makes it all the more baffling. He also wore thick glasses to emphasize his nerdiness, even though he didn’t need to do that, either. His choices made a statement, just the wrong one.

Big Bang Theory’s Howard Wolowitz

Being a show about nerds, it’s almost guaranteed that there’s going to be more than one Big Bang Theory character on this list. Let us now roll out the carpet once more and give a hearty welcome to Howard Wolowitz. We think he’d be proud of this achievement.

He has a style that is all his, and you can’t mistake it for anyone else’s. Not only does he like wearing his turtlenecks, but he also loves his plaid shirts. He sometimes dresses like a cowboy even though everyone knows he isn’t one.

Breaking Bad’s Saul Goodman

We don’t have anything bad to say about Breaking Bad because it’s one heck of a show, but we have some comments about Saul’s fashion sense. What he likes to wear isn’t helping his reputation at all. But no one can tell him anything.

It’s always a good thing to dress formally, but Saul can’t seem to get things right. He hasn’t nailed his color combinations, and he has a penchant for choosing ties with weird patterns. Someone should rescue him from his fashion rut.

It’s undeniable that Friends remains one of the most-watched TV shows of all time. It may have been years since they aired the last episode, but people still can’t seem to get enough of the cast and the show.

One of the most memorable characters on the show is Phoebe Buffay portrayed by Lisa Kudrow. Her quirky personality makes us laugh, but her wardrobe makes us cringe. She could use more taste when it comes to picking out outfits.

30 Rock’s Cerie

Put the wrong wardrobe on someone, and you’ll see that even if that person is very attractive, they will look plain, and sometimes even horrible. Everyone knows that Cerie is a bombshell. And, everyone can see that too.

If she had more sense when it comes to fashion, she wouldn’t find herself on this list. She would have belonged in a completely different one, actually, one that includes some of the most fashionable people in the world.

Arrested Development’s Tobias Funke

You can say anything you want about Tobias Funke, but there is one thing you can’t accuse him of, and that’s boring. There is never a dull moment with him. In fact, he is one of the most interesting characters on TV, especially where fashion is concerned.

However, he needs to take himself seriously at times and stop being such a joke. We’re sure people can’t forget his Avatar look where he colored himself in blue. He also likes to wear those insanely small denim shorts that no one asked for.

Glee’s Kurt Hummel

We can’t forget all the singing and the mash-ups from Glee. We loved singing along, and we were excited to watch the rivalries and the high school love stories of everyone involved in the show. One character that captured our attention was Kurt Hummel.

Not only does he have great singing powers, but he also wore the most eye-catching outfits, and we don’t mean that in a good way. Some of the clothes he decided to wear made us cringe, but as bad as they were, we still love watching the show.

Atypical’s Sam

High school was so bad for some people that they would instead not remember it and not attend any high school reunions. If people had the choice to disappear into the background during high school, they would have no questions asked.

Atypical’s Sam was the classic high school student that faded into the background. He constantly wore hoodies in a bit to make himself invisible. We understand that he had problems and didn’t have time or desire to pay attention to fashion.

The Drew Carey Show’s Mimi Bobeck

If you wear too much black or white, people will probably tell you to add some color to your wardrobe. However, a splash of color isn’t necessarily a good thing. Just because something is colorful doesn’t mean it looks good.

A case in point is Mimi Bobeck from The Drew Carey Show. Her outfits were just too much to handle, and most of the time, she looked like a rainbow. Add to that her ridiculous eye makeup, and all we want to do is look away.

Big Bang Theory’s Leonard Hofstadter

The Big Bang Theory doesn’t seem to run out of characters with questionable sartorial preferences because we have here another alumnus of the show, and he is Leonard Hofstadter. Here is a man who has a serious love for jackets.

Jackets and hoodies are necessary, especially when frolicking outdoors and during cold months. But, Leonard can’t seem to do away with them, no matter the season or occasion. He is a man who has unconditional love for them, and each episode will make this more clear.

Glee’s Sugar Motta

First of all, what kind of a name is Sugar Motta? Anyway, we digress. We are here to talk about fashion choices and not names. If there’s one thing that’s consistent about her, it’s her variety of loud and tacky headbands.

We think she has a room full of them. People no longer wear them nowadays, but she doesn’t seem to mind if it’s already out of fashion. If there’s one thing worse than her headbands, it’s her singing voice.

The Suite Life on Deck’s London Tipton

We love Brenda Song; she is an excellent actress after all, and she can be really funny at times. When we were younger, we admit that we watched The Suite Life on Deck, and we had a lot of fun doing so.

However, when we remember how she dressed in the show, we couldn’t help but wish she wore something better. She seems to have made it her mission in life to sparkle at every opportunity she gets, and she seemed to always be overdressed.

The Modern Family’s Manny Delgado

Manny was an adorable child that everyone liked in the show. However, we can’t fathom why showrunners wanted to make him dress like an older man. He urgently needed new shirts and pants suitable for his age. Basically, he needed a new wardrobe.

He’s not even a teenager yet, but his wardrobe makes him look like that affable, old uncle who joins family reunions and gives his nieces and nephews gifts and regales them with wild and unimaginable stories of his adventures and travels.

Big Bang Theory’s Amy Farrah Fowler

We have one more nerd to add to this ever-growing list of TV characters who are challenged in the fashion department. Let’s all clap our hands and give Amy Farrah Fowler a warm welcome. She is super smart, but she needs more smarts in the department that needs no mention.

Imagine how her brain works. She can handle complex computations, and she can even be a neuroscientist, but she doesn’t have the smarts to put together a wardrobe that won’t make people disappointed. Her brain can’t handle putting together a decent outfit.

Blossom’s Blossom

If you want to see how mismatched prints can make a person look like a total disaster, you need not look any further than Blossom, the show’s main character with the same name. See what she wears and avoid them at all costs.

She has poor fashion choices, but she seems like a good person, so we’ll forgive her. One thing we can’t seem to overlook, though, is her hats. Not only are they big and outdated, but they also come with different decors such as flowers.

Never Have I Ever’s Fabiola Torres

Why do intelligence and poor fashion choices always come together? Why can’t they be separated? Can’t one person be innovative and fashion-forward at the same time? We’d love to see even a single character that can be both at the same time.

She looks more like a person working in a store rather than a high school student. We bet that if we were given a chance to take a peek inside her closet, we could see nothing but polo shirts. We doubt we will be able to see more interesting items than that.

Breaking Bad’s Jesse Pinkman

Another show with plenty of fashion-challenged characters is Breaking Bad, but we understand because it’s not geared toward people who have impeccable taste in clothes. Jesse Pinkman has never had the reputation of being presentable, but that’s exactly what he was going for.

We always see him with beanies on, and he looks like he hasn’t washed his hair for weeks. He is always seen in his baggy clothes, too, and he seems as if he isn’t even trying to look good. He doesn’t put in any effort at all.

Big Bang Theory’s Raj Koothrappali

Now we have come to the end of our list, and we have Raj Koothrappali from, you guessed it, the Big Bang Theory. The show was memorable for its characters and comedy. Our tummies hurt laughing at all the lines.

One thing that wasn’t funny, though, was Raj Koothrappali’s clothes. He couldn’t get enough of layers. Didn’t he feel too warm? Was the heating in their house busted that he had to wear layer after layer of clothes? Your guess is as good as ours.
